Happy New Year and Looking Forward

Just last night, the ball dropped in Times Square signifying the New Year, with many people watching both in person and on the television. So now I saw Happy New Year! This year is bringing some wonderful things with it, especially in the theater world. While a post about everything coming in this half of the season will go up very soon, I thought I would share what I am looking forward to the most.

Most Anticipated New Musical: Hadestown. I loved reading Greek mythology growing up, and I very much enjoy the existing recording for Hadestown. The word of mouth coming out of London for this show is very positive and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it live.

Most Anticipated New Play: Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus. I think Nathan Lane is incredible no matter what show he's in, so I'm very happy to see that he'll be back on Broadway in Gary. This new comedy from Taylor Mac is set during the fall of the Roman Empire, and when the bloody battles are finished two servants are left to clean up the bodies. While it sounds relatively unlikely when one thinks of a play, I'm excited to see how it plays.

Most Anticipated Musical Revival: I think it's safe to say that most theater lovers in New York are eagerly anticipating Roundabout's Kiss Me, Kate! revival, starring Kelli O'Hara. I saw this show at Barrington Stage several years ago, and I'm thrilled that it's coming to Broadway with O'Hara in the starring role.

Most Anticipated Play Revival: While my knowledge of Burn This was very slim prior to the announcement of the upcoming revival, I'm looking forward to seeing this star studded revival.

Most Anticipated Performances: I've been a fan of Colton Ryan after seeing him in Girl from the North Country. Now, I look forward to seeing him in Alice by Heart off-Broadway at MCC Theater along with Wesley Taylor. I also look forward to seeing Kate Baldwin in Superhero at Second Stage, as I became a fan of hers after Hello, Dolly!.

While these are only all small sampling of the shows that will be in New York in the beginning of the year, I look forward to everything that is coming up. Keep an eye out for a full list of Broadway productions coming soon.
