54 Sings Alanis Morissette

March 12, 2019

Above: Antonio Cipriano and Celia Gooding at 54 Sings Alanis Morissette.

On March 10, 2019, cast members of the Broadway-bound jukebox musical Jagged Little Pill as well as some Broadway favorites came to 54 Below to sing the music of Alanis Morissette. The evening, hosted by Robbie Rozelle, featured many of Morissette's songs, sung by an incredibly talented group of people.

Highlights of the night from cast members included Lauren Patten's rendition of "Ironic," Antonio Cipriano's stripped down acoustic version of "Hand in My Pocket," Celia Gooding's powerful performance of "You Oughta Know," and Ezra Menas' interpretation of "Not the Doctor," as well as a duet of "So Pure" from Cipriano and Gooding.

Kristy Cates delivered a powerful and moving rendition of "Hands Clean," inviting us to focus on the lyrics of the song and its relation to sexual assault and the #MeToo movement of today.

Other performances featured Lianah Sta. Ana singing "Unprodigal Daughter," Lauren Molina with "All I Really Want," F. Michael Haynie singing "Your House," Jennifer DiNoia with "This Grudge," Donna Vivino singing "Forgiven," Jessica Hendy with "Uninvited," Graham Hancock and Joe Veale with "Head Over Feet," Sarah Lynn Marion singing "Thank U," LaDonna Burns with "Mary Jane," and the ensemble (Gregory Driscoll, Asher Dubin, Atiauna Grant, Samantha Littleford, Jenna Najjar, Joe Veale) singing "You Learn."

It was wonderful to be in the room, where the artists had seemingly endless energy, all while celebrating Morissette and the impact her music had on them, as well as the future of Jagged Little Pill. And, after this, I can safely say that Jagged Little Pill is going to be one great show.
