Review: Kinky Boots, starring David Cook and Carrie St. Louis

Thanks to Broadway Roulette, I found myself back at Kinky Boots, having not been there since my third visit in February. With a few cast changes and some incredibly talented understudies on, I found that I enjoyed my fourth visit to the shoe factory just as much as the other three.

David Cook is currently in his second stint as Charlie Price, after playing the role earlier this year. He's clearly comfortable in the part and has great chemistry with the rest of the cast. The other new addition is Carrie St. Louis, whose previous Broadway credits include Glinda in Wicked. She now plays Lauren, one of the factory workers who helps Charlie think of a way to save the factory. Her rendition of "The History of Wrong Guys" is spot on, and she fills the character's shoes perfectly.

Despite being in it's sixth year on Broadway, Kinky Boots is as good as ever. The cast is top notch, and you can be assured of a good time, and of being given a good message, when you buy tickets. I was reminded during the last number "Raise You Up/Just Be" of why I love the show so much. The message of acceptance and being who you are is one for everyone, no matter who you are. So, I'll leave you with the "Price and Simon secrets to success" as outlined in the song.

1. Pursue the truth

2. Learn something new

3. Accept yourself and you'll accept other too

4. Let love shine

5. Let pride be your guide

6. You change the world when you change your mind
