With the season now in full swing, there are so many upcoming shows to look forward to. But if you had to pick just five, here are my choices for what you should see in November.
1. Jagged Little Pill - When this show premiered at the A.R.T. it was a massive success. Now the music of Alanis Morissette will hit Broadway in a show that has been compared to groundbreaking shows like Rent. It breaks the mold from many recent jukebox musicals by creating a story for Morissette's Jagged Little Pill album that is exceptionally relevant.
2. Evita - Every year New York City Center puts on gala presentation, and this year they'll be telling the story of Eva Perón. They'll be honoring the original vision for the musical by having two actresses share the title role for the first time ever. If the previous gala presentations at City Center are anything to judge by, anyone seeing this production is in for a wonderful night.
3. A Christmas Carol - For a limited time, Jack Thorne's adaptation of the classic Christmas tale will grace Broadway's Lyceum Theatre. A hit in London for the past few years, it seems to be a joyous story that will put everyone in a wonderful mood ahead of the holiday season.
4. The Inheritance - This two part epic has been compared to Tony Kushner's Angels in America and recently won the Olivier Award for Best Play. Coming in at seven hours long across two parts, it may seem like a massive investment of both time and money, but I urge everyone to see what is shaping up to be one of the most important and memorable plays of the century.
5. Sing Street - While this show may not begin previews at New York Theater Workshop until the end of November, it is definitely one that is on the top of my list. Based on the 2016 movie about the thrill of first love and the power of music, the stage adaption is from the creators of the Tony Award winning musical Once. With all the fantastic work that has come out of NYTW in the recent years, this is one I would not want to miss.
