With the season starting to shape up, more and more shows will be starting to open as we get closer to the fall. So what shows am I planning to see?
1. Escape to Margaritaville is the latest show from Tony winning director Christopher Ashley. The more I watched and learned about this show for my reaction post (which you can read here) the more excited I got for it and it's in the top three that I'm most excited for.
2. SpongeBob Squarepants is the musical adaption of the kids' cartoon. I'm a little bit unsure of how it will work as a musical, so this is on my to see list so I get a better opinion of it.
3. The Band's Visit was nominated for several Drama Desk Awards which made me quite intrigued with the show. From the music I've been hearing in ads, my interest is up and I'm excited to see it on stage.
4. Time and the Conways is the revival of the J.B. Priestley play and will be directed by Rebecca Taichman who just won a Tony for Indecent and will star Elizabeth McGovern, who is well known for Downton Abbey. In my book, any play directed by a Tony winner has got to be good, and I'm also a huge fan of Elizabeth McGovern.
5. M. Butterfly is the revival of David Henry Hwang's drama and will star Clive Owen as a married French diplomat. I'm excited to see this show, particularly because I don't know too much about it, and I haven't seen too many plays.
6. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the new Harry Potter play, which is enjoying a sold out run in London. I am a die hard Harry Potter fan and while I wasn't too sure about the story when I read the script book, I want to see it on stage before I judge it.
7. Frozen is the Disney movie that got stuck in everyone's heads and is coming to Broadway now. I will be the first to say that I really love Frozen and I'm actually pretty excited for the Broadway production.
8. Prince of Broadway is a celebration of the career of director and producer Harold Prince, featuring Tony Yazbeck and Brandon Uranowitz among others. I'm a big fan of Uranowitz, so I'm very excited to see this show.
9. Once on this Island is the revival of the Ahrens and Flaherty musical. I love the music from the show and I've seen a high school production of the show. This is one of the shows I'm looking forward to the most!
10. My Fair Lady Lincoln Center Theatre will be presenting the revival this spring. As much as I love seeing new shows, I adore classic shows as well and am really looking forward to this revival!
